NEW YORK (AP) — Hummer, the off-road vehicle that once symbolized America’s love for hulking SUVs, faces a shutdown after its sale to a Chinese heavy equipment maker collapsed.

Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machines Co. said Wednesday it pulled out of the deal to buy the company from General Motors Co. Tengzhong failed to get clearance from Chinese regulators within the proposed timeframe for the sale, the Chinese manufacturer said.

GM said it will continue to honor existing Hummer warranties.

“We are disappointed that the deal with Tengzhong could not be completed,” said John Smith, GM vice president of corporate planning and alliances. “GM will now work closely with Hummer employees, dealers and suppliers to wind down the business in an orderly and responsible manner.”

GM has been trying to sell the loss-making brand for the last year and signed a deal with Tengzhong in October. However, resistance from Chinese regulators, who have been putting the brakes on investment in the fast-growing Chinese auto industry, created difficulties from the start.

As recently as Tuesday, private investors were trying to set up an offshore entity in a last-minute effort to complete the acquisition ahead of a Feb. 28 deadline. That plan, along with other options, was unsuccessful, according to a person close to the situation. The person declined to be identified in order to speak more freely.

“There’s no way forward with that,” this person said. “We’re out of time.”

GM spokesman Nick Richards said the automaker would still hear last-minute bids for the brand, which employs about 3,000 people who make and sell Hummers in the U.S.

“In the early phases of the wind-down, we’ll entertain offers and determine their viability, but that will have to happen in pretty short order,” he said.

Hummer, which traces its origins to the Humvee military vehicle built by AM General LLC in South Bend, Ind., acquired a devoted following among SUV lovers who were drawn to the off-road ready vehicles. But they drew scorn from environmentalists and sales never recovered after gasoline prices spiked above $4 a gallon in the summer of 2008.

Sales peaked at 71,524 in 2006. But in December 2009, only 325 Hummers were sold, down 85 percent from the previous year, according to Autodata Corp.

Sticker prices start at more than $42,500 and run to about $63,000, according to data posted at the Hummer.com Web site. The H3, the most fuel-efficient vehicle in Hummer’s lineup, averages about 16 mpg. The vehicles are built at GM’s factory in Shreveport, La.

Under the initial agreement to sell Hummer, Tengzhong would have received an 80 percent stake, while Hong Kong investor Suolang Duoji, who indirectly owns a big stake in Tengzhong, would have gotten 20 percent. The investors would also have owned Hummer’s nationwide dealer network.

Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed, although a person briefed on the deal at the time said the sale price was around $150 million. GM’s bankruptcy filing last summer said that the brand could bring in $500 million or more.

Beijing had been cool to the acquisition. Tengzhong lacks a government permit to manufacture cars, and the Chinese government has been seeking to streamline and slow investment in the fast-growing auto industry rather than to attract newcomers.

Richards said the collapse of the sale does not change earlier plans to close the Shreveport facility by 2012. The plant also builds the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon and is currently operating on a single 10-hour shift, he said. Hummer production was idled in January.

The plant once employed about 3,000 people, but that payroll has been reduced to about 950.

Plant worker Alex Santana, a 17-year veteran of the Shreveport operation, said the end of Hummer “is going to hurt a lot of people.”

“There’s a lot of jobs going down the drain,” he said.

Doug Ebey, president of the United Auto Workers Local 2166 and a 28-year worker at the plant, said the proposed Hummer deal “was a little glimmer of hope we had.”

“It’s going to be tough for the city of Shreveport,” Ebey said. “I wish there was more of a public outcry. This place will be missed once it eventually closes. It provides good-paying, union jobs.”

Hummer is the second brand after Saturn that GM has failed to sell as part of its restructuring. GM sold Swedish brand Saab to Dutch carmaker Spyker Cars NV earlier this year. Pontiac is being discontinued.

GM is focusing its efforts on its four remaining brands: Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac and Buick.

Go back to the graveyard, and tell the ghost that you found his skull. He will ask you to put the skull in the coffin so that he may rest in peace. Use the skull with the coffin and the ghost will be set free.

Getting Started

Firstly,log in your runescape accounts then start off by speaking to the new Lumbridge Castle advisor named Sigmund. After speaking to him, talk to either Hans, the Castle Cook, Bob the Axe Seller, or the Priest in the nearby Church. One of them will tell you that Goblins with big eyes have broken through a wall. Now speak to Duke Horacio and Sigmund again.

The Goblin Symbol

Head down the ladder in the Castle Kitchen into the cellar, and then use your Pickaxe on the Rubble on the wall. You should find a small Brooch on the ground just beyond the Rubble; pick it up and look at it. Speak to both the Duke and the advisor and they will suggest that you speak to Reldo, the Librarian of Varrock.

Reldo says that he isn’t sure what it is, but he wrote a book about the different Goblin Tribes. Search the shelves on the west side of the library until you find a Goblin Symbol Book. Read it until you finally realize that it belongs to the Dorgeshuun Tribe. Keep the book for this runescape quest, as you may like to use it to help you later on.

The Goblins

Now go to the Goblin Village located north of Falador. Speak to both General Bentnose and Wartface about each of the options. You’ll learn about the history of the Goblins, along with 2 new emotes: Goblin Dance and Goblin Bow! Head back to Lumbridge and speak to the Duke and Sigmund again and tell them what you’ve learned.

Go back into the Goblin Caves below the castle and unplug the path to the south. Continue east and follow the symbols in the book. According to the symbols written, if you read the book you can follow the directions that are given. Navigate with the symbols in the book or follow the below map until you come across a mine with a Goblin named Mistag and greet him with a Goblin Bow. He wants you to make peace with the Duke of Lumbridge. Talk to him again and he will show you the way out.

A Traitor…

Speak to the Duke again and he will tell you that his Silverware has been stolen. Now pickpocket Sigmund for a Key, unlock the Chest in the southern room and wear the H.A.M. Robes that you find. Go into the H.A.M. HQ which can be found by climbing down the ladder in a small abandoned building east of Draynor Village Jail (northwest of Lumbridge). Picklock the Trapdoor climb down, and search the first crate for the Silverware.

Speak to the Duke and advisor again, and Sigmund will be dismissed for committing treason and plotting war between the Humans and Goblins. You will receive a Peace Treaty Scroll; bring this to Mistag. When you get to the cave, a goblin named Kazgar can show you the way. Show the treaty to Mistag and you’ll see a cut-scene of it. You’ll also see Sigmund plotting behind the doors… Quest Complete!

Getting Started

Talk to Launa and she will tell your runescape accounts about the origin of the Hole and about her son and husband. When the chance comes, tell her that you will go look for her husband and son.
Now take a rope, use it with the Rift and climb down into the Anger Room.
The Anger Room
As soon as you enter you will watch a small cutscene. To get through this room you have to fill up the Anger Meter:
To do this, you have to kill the monsters in the room. You will have a choice of taking a weapon from the weapon rack, and each weapon only hurts one type of monster in the room:
Sword - Anger Unicorn
Spear - Anger Bear
Mace - Anger Giant Rat
Battleaxe - Anger Goblin
Don’t be surprised if you hit high in the room: as you can see from the pictures below, it’s natural to hit well over 100!
Kill the animals in the room until your Anger Meter fills up, and once it’s full, your character will do a weird dance and a dragon comes out.
Then the screen blacks out and you will see a short cutscene. Now go through the exit, not the ladders.
The Fear Room
Go around and look into every Dark Hole on the sides of the wall. Search all of the Dark Holes until a Fear Reaper comes out, kill it, and repeat until you’ve killed 5.
After you have killed 5 Fear Reapers, you will view a short cut scene. Then go and Enter the Black Hole.
The Confusion Room
In this room you will see lots of doors and monsters. Leave the doors alone for now, and instead go and attack one of the Confusion Beasts. Keep attacking the beast until it disappears. Don’t stop attacking the beast, even if you are hitting zero. Attack every monster and eventually you will find the real Confusion Beast. You will know when you have found the real Confusion Beast as you will be hurting it instead of hitting zero’s.
Note: If you run, the Confusion Beasts may mage you!
Be careful as they can poison you, but the poison is weak and only hits 1’s. You have to kill that beast 5 times and after the fifth time, there will be only one door standing.
You will then see another cut scene. Now enter the remaining door.
The Hopeless Room
In this room, you’ll have to kill each monster 3 times. When you get it’s first form down to 0 hitpoints, it will shrink down and regain its’ hitpoints and you’ll have to fight it again. After killing it for a third time, it will disappear completely. Now cross the Bridge of Hope and enter the Black Hole.
The Last Room
When you enter the black hole from the hopeless room, you will see another cut scene - but this time it is between the father and… the tentacles… I mean son, as they reminisce.
After the cut scene, it is you job to kill the three tentacles. They are quite weak, but they can poison you, although the poison only hits 1 at most. Then Tolna will wake up.
When Tolna has woken up, speak to him. When the conversation is over you will appear outside. Once you are outside, Launa will no longer be there, but Tolna will. Speak to Tolna and he will tell you about what he was doing inside the rift. Then he will thank you, and give you your reward. Congratulations! Quest Complete!Rewards

Why Should I Get a PIN?

Your account should get a PIN because it prevents you from losing equipment and resources that you have worked for.

Even with the trade limit in place, you should set a PIN on your bank account. People could still sell your equipment or just put it into a Party Room drop. It’s better to be safe than sorry!

Getting a PIN

PINs can be set from any Bank of RuneScape which has a Banker working in it. This means you can not change your PIN settings from a bank chest, such as the Shantay Pass or the Lumbridge Cellar Chest. Banks can be seen from their Logo on the map, which is a dollar ($) sign. Here is an example of what a bank looks like, from the world map. The Banks are highlighted in Red.

Note: The Bank in the Cooks’ Guild is available only to players who have completed the Varrock Achievement diaries.

Strike up a conversation by talking to a banker. This can be done by right-clicking the banker and selecting the “Talk to” Option like so:

Once you have started the conversation, select the “I’d like to check my PIN settings” option.

To skip the conversation altogether, you can simply select the “Bank” option in the right-click menu to access you bank as normal, and then click on the “Bank Pin” button in the bottom-left of the bank screen.

Now you will be greeted with the Bank of RuneScape PIN settings screen.

Now, you will receive another screen, this time letting you choose what you would like your bank PIN to be.

Once you have your PIN set, the PIN settings screen will be updated to this. This will show you if you have a pin set or not.

Using Your PIN

Now that you have a PIN set, whenever you wish to access your bank runescape accounts, or the Grand Exchange, you will need to enter it. It can be done almost exactly how you set it, just type in the digits as they appear. However, be aware of the fact that the numbers will change places between digits and they are unlikely to be in the same spot twice running!

This tells you which digit you are currently on. It will change to from the first, to the second, to the third and finally to the fourth.
This is the digit entry area. Select which number comes in the correct order. For example if my PIN was 6578, I would click 6 from that screen.
This is the exit option. Once clicked, it will return you to the main RuneScape playing window.
This button will begin the process of canceling your set PIN. Once you click it your recovery delay will be activated. In however many days, your PIN will be cancelled. If you click this and then remember your PIN, just enter it and it will automatically cancel the cancel.
This is a visual sign to which digit you are on. The Question marks (?) change to asterisks (*) once a digit has been entered.
This tells you which service you are trying to use. It can either be the Bank of RuneScape, or The Grand Exchange or even The Housing Security system.
Player Owned Houses

You can even use your PIN to secure your Player owned house. If you try to enter into your house in build mode, without having accessed the bank or Grand Exchange first, you will be forced to enter your pin into the entry screen.

Never tell your PIN to anyone.
Jagex Staff members will never ask for your PIN. It is better to have a PIN, than to not.

What is It?

The Combat Triangle is basically a relationship between the different fighting-style classes in RuneScape. It consists of Warriors, Mages and Rangers, each using their own unique style of fighting to an advantage toward an enemy. Each class also has a disadvantage toward another enemy which makes them weaker.

In a normal situation, the Combat Triangle is as follows:

Rangers defeat Mages.
Mages are stronger than Warriors.
Warriors can defeat Rangers.
A normal situation is one where each class’ main skill is about equal to one another. If there’s a huge difference in levels, the Triangle could fall apart. A difference in your primary skill’s level from about 5-10 could “tilt” the triangle.
Why Does the Triangle Work?

The Combat Triangle was implemented to give your runescape accounts each class a ‘fighting chance’ against one enemy, and a disadvantage against another. In short, this has to do with different skills, weapons and armor used by each class.

Rangers Defeat Mages

A Ranger is able to defeat a Mage because of the fact that their armor mainly consists of Leather, which will not conduct Magical attacks. Rangers can attack quickly from a distance, which is one of the Mage’s main specialties. Effectively, the Mage has lost it’s main advantages towards the enemy. Magical attacks are much slower and weaker than Ranged attacks, and Wizard Robes will actually lower the Mage’s Ranged Defense.

Mages Defeat Warriors

A Mage can defeat a Warrior in Battle due to the fact that a Warrior’s heavy plate armor will conduct Magic and the attacks will be stronger. Warriors are unable to attack from a distance like a Mage can, so while the fighter is trying to advance on the Mage, strong Magical attacks are causing big damage.

Warriors Defeat Rangers

Warriors are strong against Rangers because their plate armor will deflect the Ranger’s arrows and cause very little damage to the Warrior. The Archer has no way to stop the Warrior from attacking him, and Leather doesn’t protect well from strong physical attacks.

Bending the Combat Triangle

It’s actually possible to “bend” the Combat Triangle so that the opposite of the above situations may occur. This requires patience and strategy, and may take several times to get it right.

Mage Defeating a Ranger

Normally, a Mage will be hunting for Warriors in the Wilderness, with the only worry of the occasional stray Ranger. Remember, a Mage can teleport if things are looking bad, so you’re granted an easy escape.

Armor: Bring some Wizard Robes, but if you feel too vulnerable bring a good set of plate legs too. Plate Legs do not penalize your magic attacks as much as Helmets or Plate Bodies, but be sure to teleport quickly enough or you may lose them. You can take along a shield too, but remember that they penalize your magical attacks.

Weapons: Bring a Staff of Fire because Fire spells are usually the most powerful, and the staff will cut down on the need to buy fire Runes.

Other Equipment: Take plenty of chaos and air Runes, as well as some Runes to Teleport, cast Bind and Curse. Air Runes are easy to craft, and Chaos Runes will respawn in the Wilderness. Also, bring some decent food, and optionally a Wizards Mind Bomb.

Strategy: The golden rule of killing a Ranger with a Mage is that if you can hit them, they can hit you. But, the longer the distance is between you and your enemy, the better chance of winning you have. So, keep a long distance, and mage him as fast as you can. Remember to set the spell as your default attack so you can quickly engage him. Don’t use your high level attack spells until last, when you’re sure you can finish him off.

Extra Tip: It’s often less costly to simply run away or teleport than wasting tons of Runes getting a useless kill that will give you at most a couple hundred arrows. Be sure it’s worth your time.

Warrior Defeating a Mage

Normally, Warriors wander the Wilderness looking for Rangers. Their strength is a great advantage.

Armor: Rather than using your expensive (and heavy!) set of plate armor, bring some leather armor instead. It provides excellent defense against magic, easy to craft, less costly to buy, and it also weighs less so that you can run for longer periods of time. You should also bring an Anti-Dragon Breath Shield, or a wooden one which respawns just north of Varrock.

Weapons: The best bet to defeat a Mage would be to use a Mithril Scimitar or an Adamantite Long Sword (better metal is good too!), because they have fast attack speeds and a decent amount of damage.

Other Equipment: The standard Warrior gear is always helpful, which includes some Strength Potions, and food such as tuna or lobsters. A so-called “defense cabbage” may also help.

Strategy: Make a character whose stats are: 40 runescape gold farming, as high strength as you can make it, and 40 defense. Get 40 ranged, so you can wear full green dragon armor. Make sure your ranged doesn’t effect your combat level. Now the hardest part: Get 37 prayer! This will allow you to take half damage from all magical attacks in the wilderness! Now get a rune short sword, which attacks fast and an Anti-Dragon Breath shield, and you will be the perfect anti-Mager.

Extra Tip: Rush! Rush! Rush! You want to tank through this mage, and annihilate him. Take maybe half a second to gulp a strength potion, and then rush him.

Ranger Defeating a Warrior

My favorite combo. Archers are fun to use and can be lethal to warriors as well as mages in the right hands.

Armor: Green dragon, full, no exceptions. If you use a crossbow (bad idea!) then you may want to use a shield, but I strongly recommend you use neither a crossbow nor a shield.

Weapons: Take an Oak Longbow or Shortbow, as well as about 50 Steel arrows and 100 Bronze per trip.

Other Equipment: Depending on how much money you have, you may want to bring a spare bow or extra arrows. You should also bring some Teleport runes.

Strategy: Your stats, being a ranger, should be about 1 Attack, 40 Defense, 1 Strength, and 50-ish ranged. Now, give or take 10 levels and you are still a ranger! Now get 20 or 25 magic! This may seem like a shock to you, but if you want to beat warriors consistently, you need it! 25 Magic if you want to Teleport; 20 if you aren’t worried about that. What does 20 magic do? Bind! Bind can stop a warrior in his tracks while you range him! Now, if you want to Bind him from far away, then longbow, up close? Shortbow. Plan accordingly.

To make a good PKer of any sort, you need to be good at cooking and fishing, as well as RuneCrafting. You also need a great deal of money to buy your supplies. And, if you want to beat ANYBODY in the Wilderness, your stats will have to be 99 of everything.
